West Virginia has an abundance of wildlife and is a great place for hunting various species of birds, large game, and small game. Geese, ducks, deer, bear, coyotes, bobcats, and all manner of squirrels, opossum, and beaver call West Virginia home. For hunters the hunting dates, like the wildlife, are generous. The following are the hunting dates for the 2013-2014 WV hunting season.
Wild Boar Hunting Season: Gun season is Oct 26-Nov 2, and archery season is Oct 12-Dec 31.
Wild Boar Bag Limit: You may only take one (1) wild boar per season.
The state is divided into the following sections by county:
Section A: Brooke, Hampshire, Hancock, Hardy, Marshall, Mineral (East), Monongalia, Ohio, Tyler, Wood
Section B: Berkeley, Calhoun, Doddridge, Harrison, Jackson, Jefferson, Lewis, Marion, Mason, Morgan, Pendleton (East), Pleasants, Preston, Putnam, Ritchie, Taylor, Upshur, Wetzel, Wirt
Section C: Barbour, Braxton, Cabell, Gilmer, Grant, Greenbrier (South), Kanawha (North of Elk River and West of Corridor G), Lincoln (North), Mineral (West), Monroe, Randolph (private land), Roane, Summers, Tucker (private land), Wayne (North)
Section D: Clay (North of Elk River), Fayette (East), Nicholas (East of Route 19), Pocahontas (private land), Webster
Section E: Boone, Clay (South of Elk River), Fayette (West), Greenbrier (North), Kanawha (South of Elk River and East of Corridor G), Lincoln (South), Mercer, Nicholas (West of Route 19), Pendleton (West), Raleigh, Wayne (South)
Section F: Logan, McDowell, Mingo, Wyoming
Deer Hunting Seasons:
Archery season is Sept 28-Dec 31. The maximum season bag limit is 3, in sections A, B, C, and D, and the maximum season bag limit is 2 in sections E and F.
Antlered deer firearms season is Nov 25-Dec 7. Maximum season bag limit is 2, in sections A, B, C, D, and E. The season is closed in section F.
Antlerless deer firearms season is Oct 24-Oct 26, Nov 25-Dec 7, Dec 19-Dec 21, and Dec 28-Dec 31. The bag limit is 3 for section A an B. The season bag limit is one (1) in sections C and D. The season is closed in sections E and F.
Muzzleloader season is Dec 9-Dec 14. The maximum season bag limit is 2 in sections A, B, C, D, and E. The season is closed in section F.
Deer Youth Season is Oct 19, where the bag limit is 1. And Dec 26-Dec 27, where the daily bag limit is 1, but the possession limit and season limit is 2.
Bear Archery Season is Sept 28-Nov 23 and Dec 9-Dec 31.
Bear Gun Season is Sept 21-Sept 27, Oct 7-Oct 11, Nov 25-Dec 7, and Dec 9-Dec 31.
Two bear can be taken in archery season or one each in archery and firearms season, but one bear must be taken in Boone, Fayette, Kanawha, Logan, McDowell, Mingo, Raleigh, or Wyoming county.
Turkey Season: Oct 12-Oct 19, Oct 28-Nov 2, and Oct 28-Nov 16, and April 28-May 24, 2014 (Bearded Only).
Turkey Youth Season is April 26, 2014.
Squirrel Season is Sept 14-Jan 31, 2014.

Ruffed Grouse Season is Oct 12-Feb 28, 2014.
Bobwhite Quail Season is Nov 2-Jan 4, 2014.
Cottontail Rabbit Season is Nov 2-Feb 28, 2014.

Ring-necked Pheasant Season is Nov 2-Jan 4, and Nov 9-Dec 7, 2014.
Raccoon Hunting Season is Oct 12-Feb 28, 2014.
Raccoon Trapping Season is Nov 2-Feb 28, 2014.
Red Fox, Gray Fox Hunting and Trapping Season is Nov 2-Feb 28, 2014.
Red Fox, Gray Fox Hunting at night is Jan 1-Feb 28, 2014.
Bobcat Hunting and Trapping Season is Nov 2-Feb 28, 2014.
Mink, Muskrat Trapping Season is Nov 2-Feb 28, 2014.
Fisher Trapping Season is Nov 2-Jan 31, 2014.
Beaver Trapping Season is Nov 2-March 31, 2014.
Otter Trapping Season is Nov 2-Feb 28, 2014.
Crow Hunting Season is Oct 1-Nov 23, 2013 and Jan 1-March 1, 2014
Coyote Hunting Season is continuously ongoing.
Coyote Hunting at night Season is Jan 1-July 31, 2014.
Skunk, Opossum, Woodchuck, Weasel, English Sparrow, European Starling, and Pigeon Hunting Season is Continuous Open Season.
Skunk, Opossum, Coyote, and Weasel Trapping Season is Nov 2-Feb 28, 2014.
In West Virginia, to obtain a hunting license you must complete a Hunter Safety and Education Course approved by the Hunter Education Association.
